I... am gonna live forever.

Inglourious Basterds

December 20, 2009

I don’t know if I got the spelling right, but I am quite certain I like the movie much.

This is no attempt to review the film. These are just thoughts that came to mind during and after watching the film. My general impression was that I felt like reading a book. Probably that’s how much I appreciated the story. Usually, in films, I feel that this and that are missing, which is understandable due to limited time. But in books, there is hardly an excuse for an incomplete book, even open-ended films or a book from a series is complete—if it is a good book.

Inglourious Basterds presents an alternative universe where the Nazis are the hunted and involves intertwining plots that would keep your attention to the screen, to say the least. It has a cast of good actors and a talented director, Quentin Tarantino.

Now Showing

December 17, 2009

I’ve been waiting for this the whole year…

Now, this super-duper cute little princess is back in the country. Just like a movie comeback. She’s bigger. Better. haha.

She seemed twice as tall as she was before. Her hair was longer. But her cheeks! Their the same rosy red cheeks (like those from anaheim california)! Like that of a baby doll!

I was not supposed to meet them at the airport. I “convinced” myself when I woke up that I’d just see her some other day because I have work and have to go to school. BUT when kuyang called, I was like an on-off switch. After 10 minutes, I was already waiting at the airport. hahaha. The whole time, I was just standing. I could not sit because I was sooooo excited. I was like a kid waiting for her gift. When I saw them, I “kinda” shouted, “ayan na si Keng!” hahaha

Then, I eagerly asked the guard if they could let me enter the area where the passengers wait, and they allowed me (thank you! thank you!). I ran towards this little girl on the stroller. And she was grinning at me. Really. She was grinning. As if she knew I missed her so much!

I took her from the stroller and carried her. I was surprised to find she is really heavy. haha. But she kissed me on the cheeks several times. Then she stared at me, like she misses me too, then she kissed me again and again. Yung malulutong na halik. Sarap. =)

(P.S. I’ll try to post new pictures of her soon.)

Break!

Aside from the great news (see post above), I also have another good news: NO CLASSES UNTIL JANUARY 4.

That means I do not have to spend hours traveling every day. I do not have to endure either fan-cum-aircon or the super cold aircon with not-so-functional air filters (haha) of FXs. I do not have to wake up early to study or to worry because I didn’t study. Around 50% less stress and 65% less expenses. Hurrah!

That also means I can have enough hours of sleep. More time for TV and DVDs. More time for movies and malls. More time with my cousins and niece. Yey! Bonding time!

I’ve never appreciated Christmas break this much. Wuhoo! =)

(P.S. I didn’t include more time for work. It doesn’t fit the paragraph above. haha)

Christmas Lagari

December 16, 2009

After dinner with the family, at around 930 pm, from MOA, I crossed the long road of EDSA to get to Tomas Morato. I had to attend two parties, a Christmas party and an anniversary party, both in that area.

I was actually enjoying traveling alone. Driving relaxes me, especially when there is no traffic. Though it became so stressful when I took ONE wrong turn in EDSA, and I ended up losing about an hour to find a U-Turn back. And the people from the two parties are bombarding me with calls and texts. San ka na? Anong oras ka ba dadating? Punta ka ha, etc.

At around 11 pm, I met up with my brods and sisses, who by that time already seemed tipsy. I was so behind. But my blockmates in law school were persistently texting and calling, not to mention I asked some of my classmates to wait up for me. (I didn’t know we’d also be celebrating the fraternity and sorority anniversary last night). After 30 minutes or so, I told them I had to go, and that I’d follow them after the Christmas party. Of course, there’s the usual, sino ba mas mahal mo sa ‘min? Kinda touching actually, though it’s quite hard to reason why I also had to attend the party with my classmates.

Eventually, they let me go, so I went to this KTV bar at a sidestreet in Tomas Morato. The area was quieter because, instead of other bars with loud music, there were more manufactured homes in the area–only the singing voices of my drunken classmates can be heard on the streets.

When I arrived at past 12 am, I cannot remember how many asked me, bakit ngayon ka lang? Oh, no. I had to explain. again. Well, I did not. I went straight ahead to the KTV machine and punched in my favorite songs. Then, only my voice can be heard on the streets. haha.

But after 20 minutes or so, the brods and sisses were outside the bar. Nanunundo na agad. haha. I couldn’t leave right away; I just arrived. So I waited for others to leave first, then, when it seemed clear to go, I bade my classmates a merry Christmas, and transferred yet again to another bar. O di ba, lagari?

Last night was tiring, and I was actually hoping to enjoy both parties more. I hope there are more hours yesterday. But it’s fine. I am happy I got to celebrate with both of them. I hope we could get to celebrate again–preferrably on different dates.

Who doesn’t want to travel the world?

December 11, 2009

Definitely, I am not one of them. And definitely not my very good and generous friend kg *wink*, who, in this season of gift giving, has good news for you guys who want some loot.

My three favorite places…

I haven’t been to many places, well, you know, the usual excuses: money, time, and company. Really, it’s as much as the company as it is the place. I hadn’t given this much thought, but these are the first three things that came to my mind. It counts for something, right?

The Macau Tower

It was like a fairy tale come true for me.

Ocean Park, Hong Kong

I’ve always enjoyed thrilling rides, the kind that takes my breath away. As compared with other theme parks, I enjoyed the rides here the most. They are bolder and faster. Also, when you’re on the uppermost part of the park, you can oversee the calm ocean and just stare at it from the top of the mountain. It was beautiful. After the tiredness from all the walking and running, you get tranquility from it.

And, oh, the stingrays and some fishes I don’t know the name of and the pandas are wonderful to watch!

Tagaytay

I’ve never been to this place for years already. No particular place. I just love Tagaytay. It’s like the place you just run to. Whether you are super happy or super sad or super bored, there’s always Tagaytay. And the best part, it’s just an hour away.

The places I dream of going to…

There are no particular spots in these places that I want to see. Pack with my Samsonite luggage, I just know I want to explore these places, the whole area, and perhaps only then can I pick my favorite spots. Someday, I hope these would be crossed out in my bucket list.

New Orleans

Anne Rice’s gift of providing exquisite details made me want to see New Orleans for real. This is the abode of my beloved Lestat (Vampire Chronicles), and I just want to imagine him walking along the roads of this French-influenced city. Perhaps I can also take a glimpse of the vestiges of old Louisiana plantations. I guess when you love a story so much, you also fall in love with the setting.

Japan

This country has a very rich culture, from very traditional customs to the coolest fashion trends. The Japanese are a very unique people, and no one can question their unquestionable pride and creativity. Everything there seems interesting. It’s either high technology or sensibility. I want to see the robots, the samurais, the punk ass kids, the rockers, the traditional houses, the peculiar clothes, the peculiar people, the old school, and the new. I want to see the temples and the highly advanced buildings. The fields and the cities. I want to see these fellow Asians who, after a tragedy, rose above all.

Himalayas

I wish I can try the basic life of people who live in places such as the Himalayas. Perhaps we can learn what really is important and what is not. And I wonder how it feels being on top of the world. Will I feel little or will I feel tall? Besides, I just want to know if being close to heaven really feels close to heaven.
