more than a leaking faucet

Warning: rant post

With leaking faucets, I cannot fall asleep. Same with a ticking clock. So before I go to sleep, I make sure that all faucets are tightly closed, and I do not keep a ticking clock in my room. The sounds they make in the dead silence of the night are “loud,” and the anticipation of the next tick keeps me awake.

Last night was horrible. I live in a building with many units separated by thin walls. Even a singing in the bathroom or a loud conversation on the phone can be heard at midnight and early in the morning because of the quietness, but those are tolerable and do not last an hour. In a nearby house, there was a celebration, and yes, like most Filipino parties, they have videoke. It’s fun to sing along with friends and in a microphone; I myself enjoy videoke, even bought Magic Sing. But I am considerate with my neighbors. I do not maintain the loudest volume when other people are already sleeping. I do not talk to the mic as if I’m a VJ and as if everybody wants to listen. Oh, but these people did. Even the closed windows and humming sound of the air-con could not shut them out.

If bars with loud music are banned in residential areas, I wish they also have ordinances regulating such irritable activities. Celebrate all you want, but be considerate. Live, and let live.

We actually do have ordinances like that. Best to have the guard’s (barangay tanod’s) phone numbers to report disturbances. Alam ko at most 12 midnight yung limit.

they do? it doesn’t seem like they do to me. and if they have, i wish they’d actually implement it.

That’s happens. There are people who can’t sensitive enough. Ang justification nila, paminsan minsan lang naman daw. I think there’d be no perfect excuse that.

wala pa nga sila sa loob ng bahay. nasa kalsada sila! they have no walls to at least enclose a bit their noise.

that’s the downside of living in an apartment…masyado malapit mga bahay at manipis ang mga dingding. that’s also what we experienced in college.

give and take lang yan, why don’t you tell them about it. minsan, without you knowing it, you also become a bother to them. I think the important thing is communication. tell them that they are bothering you.

yes, that’s a big downside. i’m sure i was never a bother to them as i live quietly in my apartment. besides, need i talk to them to know they’re a disturbance? as much as i want to tell them (shout at them), i couldn’t because they’re many and they’re drunk, every time.

i miss home. i wish i can also live in a private village here in Manila. pag-iipunan ko yan. hehe.

when i was younger, i could sleep through even if people were singing or even fighting outside. these days, even the faintest sound wakes me up at night. what the heck happened to me? i also don’t like ticking clocks…lol.

i think you should schedule a videoke night. get back at the neighbors…lol.

hmmm, i think i can sleep in that, kasi light sleeper ako eh, kahit saan basta pagod, i can sleep…

pero if uber maingay na talaga and their annoyance just gets to you, report them.

[louraine] i’m borrowing those films na. i heard they’re good, too. :)

[eks] oo ba! (dami natin pera no?) lol

[kayni] haha. they should be ready when i sing through the night! we’ll see what they’ll do. hehe.

[sheng] nakakatawa, last night they were having another “session,” though it only lasted until 930. pwede na. :)

Solution diyan: earplugs! (less than 50 pesos at Ace)

I totally agree. This would drive me nuts too. I’ve had similar experiences and I usually call security so they can reprimand the tenants.
It’s a bit sad that a lot of Filipinos don’t mind much about manners.
